Tulsa Student Sent Home Because Of Dreadlocks
In Tulsa, Oklahoma, a young girl, Tiana Parker, was told she could not wear dreadlocks to school, because the dress code forbids it. The Deborah Brown Community School told Tiana’s father, Terence Parker, that his daughter Tiana’s hair is not presentable. Tiana was tearfully upset because she wanted to keep dreadlocks. Here is a video of the news story by Fox23 in Tulsa.
This story is so sad. Why deny a child their education if they choose to wear and afro or dreadlocks. When teachers teach, they are teaching the student not the hairstyle. So how in the hell will having locks or an afro interfere with a child’s education especially since Tiana is straight A student. If she was allowed to keep the hairstyle last year, she should have been to keep it this year. Tiana, keep you head up and keep getting those straight A’s!
